This beautiful, Bone china TRIO set of Dessert Plate, Cup and Saucer
is made by Royal Crown Derby in their famous Mikado collection.
The Mikado pattern was designed in 1894 by Royal Crown Derby’s art director, Thomas Amos Reed.
It was inspired by rice paper drawings that he had obtained in the Far East.
The original illustrations formed the basis of the scenes.
With the exception of a few of the larger pieces, which are decorated with the complete design, all of the smaller items are decorated with a different chapter of the story. Variations of the legend associated with the pattern are many.
Indeed, little imagination is needed to weave a tale with such romantic subjects as ‘Wandering Sad-Eyed Lover’, ‘The Tall Standing Pagodas of the Orient’, ‘The Flight of Cranes’, all set against a backdrop or rivers, mountains and delicate leaf tracery.
The set is properly marked with Royal Crown Derby backstamp and the cipher. Different sets have different mark and ciphers but all of them are from older version made before 1938
The set includes:
1 (one) Dessert Plate - 6 3/8/8" in diameter.
1 (one) Coffee cup - 3" in diameter at the rim and 2 1/2" tall
1 (one) Saucer for the cup - 5 3/8" in diameter.
The set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, gold loss or repairs.
It is possible to have some minor crazing that is consistent with the age.
