ULEZ COMPLIANT
The genuine garage find. A few weeks ago, it had its first drive for 30 years from Cornwall up the M5 in Devon, covering just over 150 miles without issues, cruising at motorway speeds. Last night I took it to another meeting in Kingsbridge
Offered to me last year by a Swiss gentleman who bought the car from the first owner in 1983.
He married an English lady and used to commute between Basel in Switzerland and Portsmouth in the E10.
In 1996 he decided to park it in his wife’s garage and, due to a divorce it was left there. He planned it give it to his son but the son had no interest so it remained there for three decades. It has survived incredibly well considering the passing of time.
I had a particular interest in it due to the lack of structural rust and originality. The Swiss gentleman had touched bits up and had it Ziebarted which unquestionably kept the car solid.
It shows a 1602 badge as the 1802 badge was lost. According to the history this has caused some confusion for years! The car is a very rare Euro only 1802 model.
Since arriving in Cornwall it has had:
New calipers, drums, cylinders, shoes etc
New CV boots
Fluids and filters Changed
Waterpump
Thermostat
Plugs and genuine leads
Wheels and tyres
All four shock absorbers
Exhaust
Battery
and so much more
I have purchased genuine new fabric for the seats (still available from BMW UK) as the driver’s seat is frayed & worn. The rest of the seats are reasonable but I purchased enough fabric to do all of them.
I have got the car safe and reliable again having replaced most consumables.
I have purchased brand new stainless bumpers for it that arrive today.
The car does need a respray and some detailing, but is solid and reliable.
It came to me on the original steels with chrome caps (included) but I decided to
buy some brand new CD66 wheels and Yokohama Advan tyres given the age of the original tyres.
The wheels you see in the photos have been removed as I prefer the old wheels. These have been refurbished with new tyres
Jobs I know will need doing:
The choke cable is sticking slightly
The windscreen has damage in the very top corner (not an MOT failure)
The bodywork is far from perfect as the photos illustrate. It could be used as it is but it really needs a good respray.
I would happily get an MOT on the car for peace of mind for the buyer.
The car comes with:
2 sets of keys
V5 in my name (no previous UK keepers)
BMW handbook, dealer guide, service book, Swiss emission document and a file of
paperwork.
Looking for a straight sale. I would like the car to go to and enthusiast who will
enjoy and improve it.
I would consider a deal p/x if this helps the sale. Delivery might be possible too, but
the price is for collection from SE Cornwall near Plymouth.
Please feel free to email me your number or request mine so we can discuss the
‘old fashioned way’ if you are seriously interested.
