Viscoflu Nasal Spray is a medicinal product containing 3% pH-controlled hypertonic saline and 6% N-acetylcysteine. It is indicated for use to liquefy and facilitate the mechanical removal of mucus and/or mucoid purulent secretions from the nasal cavity (in acute, subacute or chronic rhinitis; chronic rhinitis characterized by the formation of mucus crusts; vasomotor rhinitis) and paranasal sinuses (in acute or chronic sinusitis ) and to relieve the symptoms and the course of the disease in case of acute, subacute or chronic inflammation of the upper respiratory tract.

Mechanism of action

The components of Viscoflu nasal spray physically and mechanically liquefy thick and viscous mucus:

- buffered hypertonic sodium chloride solution: a hypertonic sodium chloride solution applied to the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract pulls water from the cells into the intercellular medium due to osmosis. Therefore, there is a relative increase in water in the mucus covering the epithelium, the mucus becomes liquid and is easier to remove;

- N-Acetylcysteine: the acetylated form of the amino acid cysteine breaks down mucus upon direct contact. This effect is caused by sulfhydryl radicals present in the molecule, which are able to depolymerize and break up the disulfide bonds of mucoproteins, on which the viscosity of mucus depends.

Method of administration

Proper use: remove the protective cap, tilt your head slightly and carefully insert the nozzle into the nasal cavity, press the base of the nozzle 2-3 times with two fingers. After that, inject the product into the other nostril. Clean the tip and replace the protective cap. Shake well before use.

Composition

Each 30 ml vial contains 1.8 g of N-acetylcysteine and 0.9 g of sodium chloride. Excipients: sodium hydroxide, sodium edetate, purified water.

Package

The solution is in a 30 ml glass bottle with a vertical nozzle and a protective cap.

Known side effects

Due to the high concentration of salt in the solution, after spraying, it can cause a natural burning sensation, which passes in a few minutes. Following the instructions in the leaflet reduces the risk of side effects.

Storage conditions

Store at room temperature (not higher than 25 °C), away from light and heat sources.

The shelf life indicated on the package is valid for an unopened and properly stored package.

Contraindications and limitations of use

Hypersensitivity to active substances or any auxiliary substance. Viscoflu nasal spray should not be used in children under 2 years of age. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, Viscoflu nasal spray can only be used if absolutely necessary and only under the supervision of a doctor.

Warnings

After opening the Viscoflu nasal spray bottle, there is a smell of sulfur, which does not affect the quality or effect of the product. Clean the nozzle after each spray.

It is recommended to put on the protective cap after use.

Do not use in case of individual hypersensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients of the product.

Prolonged use of topical products may cause sensitivity; if these effects occur, stop treatment and consult a doctor.

Keep out of sight and reach of children.

After the expiration date indicated on the package, the product should not be used. Do not use if packaging is damaged.

Do not swallow. Do not spray in eyes. If more than one person uses the same bottle, there is a risk of spreading infections.
