This scarce book is rarely found with its dust jacket intact. Otto Lightner's monumental work traces the cycles of financial panics, crises, and resultant crashes from 1795-1921. He cites nineteen major depressions in the history of the United States while also connecting various aspects of them as far back as Roman times. His analysis of credit and speculation and their role in the process are extremely insightful as well. This is still considered one of the most authoritative books on the subject. It will be an invaluable addition to any collection focusing on Business and Finance or American History for that matter. Here is a wonderful opportunity to acquire this item for your library.

As an interesting back story this book was found at an Antique Mall in Paradise, California some ten or so years ago. While being a modest looking book its potential content piqued my interest. So I purchased it.

I was there for my brother's wedding. When I showed my mom this book she asked me if she could borrow it. I found it hard to resist the sparkle the thought of reading it brought to her eyes.

I actually had forgotten about this book until my brother was cleaning out my mother's estate. She had finally succumbed to a seventeen year battle with cancer one month before the Camp Fire struck the cities of Paradise and Magalia. Sadly, this was also the same day we had planned to gather and celebrate her life. I spent the next eight hours wondering whether or not I would ever see my immediately family, and the families they had made, ever again. You never think that in such a short time they all could be gone by an act of negligence.

The good news is that they all survived. While my brother's business and sister's home were burnt to the ground the fire never quite reached my mother's house. It and this book were spared. The Antique Mall where this was purchased was also destroyed on that fateful day of November 8th, 2018.

Publisher/Date: Northeastern Press ; 1922.  This book is the hardcover edition. The text is unmarked. The binding is cracking. The dust jacket is heavily worn around the edges with some creasing, several closed tears, several large chips, and has a few pieces that are detached from the (could be repaired by someone with more expertise and craftsmanship). The page edges are toned with scattered foxing. There is an old book smell present.
