Rawhide Skin and Wood Construction

Traditional handheld pellet drum, often referred to as a monkey drum. This instrument features a double-sided rawhide head secured with intricate lacing over a circular wooden frame. Two wooden beaters are attached by cord, designed to strike the drum heads in rapid succession when the handle is rotated back and forth in the hand.

• Hand-painted black stripe motif on rawhide skin and wooden handle
• Authentic rawhide construction with traditional stitched edge lacing
• Simple rhythmic folk instrument suitable for percussionists or as a decorative ethnographic piece

Condition: Good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use. The rawhide skin shows some natural discoloration and surface staining consistent with the material and age. The wooden handle and beaters are intact with some minor surface wear. The lacing remains tight and secure around the frame. No structural damage or tears in the drum heads are visible.
