Restored Pair of Chromed Bath Sconces, Opal Glass Shades, 1930s, Art Deco & MCM
These chromed brass bath sconces with tulip shaped, opal glass shades were manufactured sometime during the 1930's to the early 1950's. Their stepped sides identify them as from the art deco era, and the 1930's is the most likely period of manufacture.
We have carefully cleaned each of the sconces and removed the old wall paint and household dirt from the sides and backs. We polished the chrome, gave it two coats of automotive wax, and they look very good, but still show some fine scratches that we could not get out. Please look over our photos. The tulip shaped, opal glass shades are 3-1/2" high and are in excellent condition, just just a few chips around the fitters where they don't show.
Each fixture has a new bulb socket with a built in rotary switch. One of the original sockets was defective, so we replaced both sockets and of course added new wire. We have tested the fixtures and everything is guaranteed to work correctly. The two-prong outlets at the bottom of the sconces were missing when we got them, so we installed new ones. Please note that these outlets are polarized but ungrounded, and the buyers should discuss with their electrician as to whether to hook them up since they are not the modern 3-wire, grounded outlets.
The sale includes the correct mounting hardware (mounting nuts, threaded studs, crossbars). It does not include bulbs.
Dimensions: 3-5/8" wide x 6-5/8" high where they meet the wall, 7" high from top of shade to end rotary switch knob, project 4-3/4" from the wall with shade in place. Use standard base bulbs. Please note that the standard wall box is 3-3/4" wide and these will be 1/8" too narrow to fully cover it and there will be 1/16" of wall box exposed on each side. It will fully cover smaller wall boxes.
