Welcome to Old_Time_Hockey, where we celebrate the "oddities of design and fascination" from the global game. Today we feature the definitive artifact of the Swedish rink: the Jofa Dubbel-Nisse VM.
Originally marketed as the "VM-Hjälmen" (The World Championship Helmet), this model was famously worn by Nils Nilsson and later became the signature look of international icons during the legendary Summit Series. The dual-layered crown was a revolutionary design intended to deflect impacts, but it unintentionally created a mid-century aesthetic that remains unmatched in its cool factor. This white unit captures that era of European manufacturing perfectly.
Iconic "Double" Crown: The unmistakable raised ridge design is the peak of early Swedish safety engineering and the most recognizable shape in vintage hockey.
VM Championship Heritage: Carrying the "VM" designation, this shell is tied directly to the 1960s era of Swedish international dominance.
Mid-Century Masterpiece: Produced in Malung, Sweden, this is a prime example of the functionalist industrial design that made Jofa a global powerhouse.
Authentic Character: Retains its original internal suspension and factory-correct rivets. A faint hairline crack between the front rivets (referenced in photos) serves as a testament to its five decades of history, while the shell remains sturdy and display-ready.
Shell: Structurally sound for display. A tight hairline fracture is visible between the front rivets, common for this era and material. The white finish has a deep, authentic vintage character.
Interior: Features the original internal suspension layout, well-preserved and secure.
Hardware: Includes the original chin strap and period-correct hardware.
Patina: Displays "honest" surface scuffs and light patina from its decades in the rink—a true fingerprint of hockey history.
