ithe JNR ef16 was an dc electric locomotive modified from ef15s for freight service on routes with significant gradients; 24 ef15s had regenerative braking applied - the first japanese electric to adopt this technology - in 1950-51 by the tokyo shibaura electric co, ltd and remained in operation until 1982......

i acquired this 3063 from a very large toy reseller in japan who offers only cursory evaluation of the condition of his offerings............upon arrival, the model exhibited a pristine shell and extremely clean wheels sets.....the test run manifested smooth and consistent operation at 27% on the rheostat for n scale factored operating speed......the head lamps at each end were vibrant and clearly chip led technology.......the only downside to this tale of excellence were packaging related:  1.  a 1/4" long case crack on the upper half of the jewel case which does not impact either the security of the packaging design or the aesthetic viewing of the model  2.  a missing plastic packaging spacer - probably discarded by the original owner/collector - which again does not compromise the safety of the locomotive in a foam protection.........

the accessories for the model include number boards and coupler alternative for both ends; all other details are factory installed....the number boards are the improved, large sprue version typical of kato latest releases......

i have priced this model considering the packaging flaws, in hopes that the model will be valued for its strengths and not dismissed for its minor imperfections......
