Wanli period Miniature Chinese Blue & White Ewer ca1600 Bird Decor Ming

Description

Late Wanli Period Miniature Chinese Porcelain Ewer (ca. 1600–1620)

A charming and unusual miniature blue and white ewer, beautifully hand-painted with floral bird decoration. These finely potted pieces date to the late Ming Dynasty, during the Wanli period (circa 1600–1620).

They may have originally been used as containers for oil, sauce, or other condiments, and would have likely served a functional purpose in an elite household or for export.

Details:

  • Period: Wanli (Ming Dynasty), ca. 1600–1620

  • Type: Miniature ewers

  • Decoration: Underglaze blue floral and bird motifs

  • Use: Possibly for oil, sauce, or ritual

Reference:
Comparable examples can be found in literature related to the Wanli shipwreck cargo, a well-documented early 17th-century maritime export event.
