- Traditionally used in the 1800s, were filled with hot coals or embers from the fireplace and slid between bedsheets to remove the winter chill
- typically 11” in diameter and roughly 3” deep
- Victorian models feature a brass lid paired with a copper base, materials chosen for their excellent heat retention
- hinged brass lid is pierced / reticulated with an intricate design of a star pattern: served a dual purpose of allowing heat to radiate and providing oxygen to keep embers glowing
- Handle is 38-inch total length, dark-stained / ebony-finished hardwood handle
- length allowed the user to reach deep into a large bed while staying a safe distance from the heat
- Rustic Condition: possible surface tarnishing, minor dings, or scratches consistent with decades of use near a hearth
