The Australian motor car history is really quite interesting.

Ford and Holden (Vauxhall/GM) had factories in Australia

and for decades all the major car manufacturers

made cars exclusively for the Australian market.

In the 50's and 60's Austin/Morris etc. made ute (pick-up)

versions of popular British cars that were never available in the UK

and exported them in kit form.

A lot of early Holden cars in Australia were based on existing British (Vauxhall) and

American (GM) models with body style/engine tweaks 

but eventually models were designed and made in Australia

solely for the Australian market.
