This Wiley Organic Chemistry book in the second edition is in hardcover format. The cover has some reasonable wear, but the pages inside are relatively unaffected (mostly because I did not open it and read it when I was supposed to). I did not see any markings in the pages when I flipped through it and there are no missing pages. It was purchased second-hand and has been on my bookshelf for about 7 years. 
Because there have been no significant changes to our understanding of organic chemistry at this level, I understand that there is very little difference between editions. Unless you are the person that likes to read the textbook cover-to-cover or your professor requires completing problems out of the book, I see no reason to spend a fortune on the newest edition. I hope my ramblings have been relatable enough to encourage you to purchase my book. Please message me with any questions. And I hope you understand o-chem much better than I did. :)
