Bedloe was a prison and a hospital in NY used during the US Civil War. The envelope has a prison examiner’s mark. John was a patient in the hospital. The letter is to his sister. Letter sheet is about 8 by 10 inch minus the portion John used for some other purpose. Letter sheet has stains, toning, wear, a fold and creasing. Envelope is reduced right.
