It takes alot to impress us at Hallmark Automotive. We don't like to admit it, but we're hard to please when it comes to cars. Why you ask we start our description this way? Well, this Mini Cooper S is a double agent from your favourite Bond movie. On the outside it's understated, clean, sophisticated and very ""cotswoldsy"" (not a word but it should be) but when down to business, delivers performance with ruthless determination. When you settle yourself into the Mini's cabin, there's very much a nod to the BMW-esque donations to the car, the iDrive is very much the same, although perhaps more funky and youthful, the seats are, if anything, more comfortable than it's BMW 1 series counterpart, and... you have a conventional handbrake, so life is joyful and simple again. No electronic handbrakes to get frozen on in a bleak winter. The best part, the cabin is solid, strong, easy to use and classy but not overtly so (think old school Land Rover, iconic so you can take it shooting on the weekends and down the Pub on Wednesday bingo night, it fits in everywhere). The drive... where do you start. Christmas morning, you're 7 years old, Santa's been, you're excited, expectant but don't know what to expect. Much the same feeling once you're behind the Cooper S wheel. The jet fighter style switches make for even more Christmas morning giddiness, you fire up the 2.0 Turbocharged Petrol engine with the bright red toggle start button and she fires up with a naughty burble from the exhaust. The cabin illuminates and the ambient lighting chimes on in whichever colour of your choosing. You toggle the Sport mode on and the lighting up ends to Red (it's all very Vader like). Before you is a 6 speed manual gearbox which is satisfying with each notch into gear and the clutch is perfectly balanced. Suddening you're Jason Statham in Transporter 1 and you're wondering if your tyres are all the identical PSI relative to the amount of passengers you have. You'll be on eBay later looking for driving gloves. Once you're away and the Cooper S get's on song, and boy can it get on song, you find yourself chuckling. B road's for breakfast, A roads for lunch, Motorways for dinner, the Mini doesn't care, it does everything extremely well. It's 2nd and 3rd gear pulls are nothing short of extraordinary and the best part (in a very Golf GTI kind of way) to the passers by, it's a very stylish, classy looking sleeper hatchback. Very much like the previous owner of this Mini, you'll find it very difficult to part with! Because it has what so many modern cars lack...personality.
