Original archive relating to the recovery of the Loch Ness Wellington bomber, “R for Robert”, collected by John Atkey, who was involved in the recovery process.

Includes original photographs of the recovery, negatives, letters, handwritten notes, technical notes, aviation-related ephemera, contact cards and supporting documents connected to the salvage and preservation of the aircraft.

The photographs appear to show stages of the recovery and handling of parts of the aircraft, including turret/rear section images and Loch Ness recovery scenes. One note references three photographs: turret lift from aircraft, partly preserved/rebuilt section, and finished rear turret on handover day to Brooklands Museum.

A rare and interesting archive for collectors of RAF, Vickers Wellington, WW2 aviation, Loch Ness, Brooklands Museum or military recovery history.

Condition varies due to age. Some documents and photographs show expected handling wear, creasing, marks and age toning. Please study all photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
