Offered here is a beautifully preserved and highly complete Shanghai export Mahjong set dating to approximately 1925–1935, produced during the height of the early 20th century Mahjong boom. This is a traditional bone and bamboo set featuring finely hand-engraved and hand-painted tiles in the refined Shanghai workshop style. The set remains unusually complete, including 148 tiles (a full 144-tile classical set plus four original spare tiles), 102 bone scoring sticks, miniature bone dice housed in their original bamboo tube, a bone wind indicator container, wind discs, dice tray, and its original sliding-lid hardwood case. Sets of this completeness and preservation are increasingly difficult to find.

One tile shows minor bamboo backing separation typical of early 20th century bone and bamboo construction. The tile remains mostly complete and structurally intact. No widespread delamination is observed.

One tile shows age-related pigment wear to the engraved surface (see photographs). The engraving remains clear and the tile is structurally intact with secure bamboo backing. Cosmetic paint loss is common in bone and bamboo sets of this age and does not affect playability.
