David Small ran for Bill Davis' Ontario PCs in the 1981 provincial election in Ottawa Centre. Originally an Ottawa city councillor and acting mayor, Claude Bennett first was elected for the Ontario PCs in Ottawa South in 1971. He sat concurrently in a municipal position in Ottawa and as MPP for a year before a provincial law was passed in 1972 banning this. He served in Bill Davis' cabinet as Minster of Housing, of Tourism, and of Industry, and continued into Frank Miller's cabinet. Bennett did not run again in 1987.
