A large and heavy antique double-sheave ship’s pulley block, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century and originally used in maritime rigging or dockside lifting operations.

This block is constructed from thick hardwood cheeks with twin metal sheaves and a substantial forged iron strop. The form, materials, and construction are consistent with traditional working maritime equipment rather than later decorative reproductions. Surface wear, darkened timber, and sheave polishing are all in keeping with prolonged practical use.

This example shows more pronounced age-related wear than pulley number one, including visible material loss to one cheek, likely the result of long-term exposure and historic woodworm activity. The woodworm has been treated, and the block has since been lightly waxed to stabilise the surface.

Despite the losses, it remains a strong and visually striking object, well suited to industrial, maritime, or loft-style interiors, or as an honest example of working nautical hardware.
