    How to Replace a CV Axle:

    1.Removing the Vehicle’s hubcap??hubcap??axle nut

    2.Jack up the appropriate side of the vehicle with jack stands 

    3.Removing the Wheel and Brake Assembly

    • disassemble the wheel
    • disassemble the brake caliper  
    • Unbolt the outer tie rod from steering knuckle  
    • Unbolt the hub from the strut tower

    4.Removing Replacing the CV Axle

    5.Replacing the CV Axle

    • Pry the CV joint.     
    • Insert the new CV axle into the transmission housing.
    • Reinsert the axle through the hub assembly.

    (Professional installation is highly recommended)

     

    Common Faults of Axle Shaft and Their Causes:

    1.Popping or clicking noise when turning

    Cause:Worn or damaged outer CV joint

     

    2.A clunk when accelerating, declerating, or when putting transaxle into drive

    Cause:Worn or damaged inner CV joint

     

    3.A humming or growling noise

    Causes:Inadequate lubrication

              Worn or damaged wheel bearings

              Worn or damaged shaft bearings within transaxle

              Worn or damaged intermediate shaft bearing on transaxle with equal length halfshaft

     

    4.A shudder or vibration when accelerating

    Causes:Worn inboard or outboard joint   

              Worn outboard plunge joint,

              Worn intermediate shaft bearing on transaxle with equal length halfshaft
