Obverse: Historical Period of Ancient Mexico  The main theme depicts an archaeological fragment of the monolith known as "TEOCALLI DE LA GUERRA SAGRADA",or PYRAMID SURMOUNTED BY THE TEMPLE OF THE SACRED WAR that shows an eagle on a cactus with " Atl tlachinolli"in it's beak. The monolith was constructed under the direction of Moctezuma ll.  In the background is a depiction of Tenochtitlan from Diego Rivera's mural " LA GRAN TENOCTITLAN ( VISTA DESDE EL MERCADO DE TLATELOLCO )" or THE GREAT TENOCTITLAN VIEWED FROM THE TLATELOLCOm MARKET.. The mural is found in the National Palace in Mexico City..

The Reverse depicts the ecosystem of rivers and lakes showing the Mexican salamander known as the "ajolote" along with a cornfield within the landscape of Xochimilco, Mexico City. This is a World Cultural Heritage site.
