NGC FINE Roman BI Double Denarius of Claudius II Gothicus AD268-70
Known as Claudius II, Marcus Aurelius Claudius "Gothicus" served as the Roman emperor from 268 to 270. Throughout his rule, he achieved success in battles against the Alemanni. However, his most notable triumph occurred at the Battle of Naissus in 269, where he decisively repelled Gothic invaders in the Balkans, earning him the moniker "Gothicus." Unfortunately, he succumbed to a pestilence, potentially the Plague of Cyprian that had afflicted various provinces of the Empire, leading to his demise.
