Description:

• Acquired in Florida at the Great Expectations Auction in Hastings that was clearing the estate of Stewart Fischer from Palatka who passed in early 2025.

• Stewart Fischer was a world reknown mime who worked with Marcel Marceau.  He collected many of these harlequin figures, as well as bronze plaques, art and statues.

• This piece is not marked but is in the style of Josef Lorenzl.  Stewart Fischer could have acquired this in France as he taught there in Marceau's dance studio.  He also traveled to Italy were he was a gondolier.

• This piece is non magnetic. I believe it is a gilded bronze.

• It sits on a stone, probably marble, base.

• It depicts a clown/jester/harlequin figure playing a mandolin.

• There are no signatures. These types of pieces were made in France as well as Austria and Germany.

• Dates from ~1930.

• Measures 4-3/8 wide, 3” deep and 4.25” tall.

Condition:

• See wear to gilding

• See highlighted photo to mark on the face.  It appears there was once something inset into the hole.
