For sale is a 3D-printed reproduction witch's hat horn for antique Edison phonographs like my original phonograph and reproducer pictured for reference above but not included in sale.
This horn is functional! It's actually pretty close to the same sound quality and definitely acceptable for the occasional play.
To accommodate the limitations of 3D printers, I designed it to be close to the original, but not an exact copy. The overall height is ~12" whereas the original is ~14". The inner diameters of the bell and flare are also different to accommodate 3D-printing without support structures and the max height per printer. The bell wall is about 3/8" thick at places and thicker closer to the bottom of the bell. This was not preferred, but a design consideration for printing and strength. This fits my 16mm diameter reproducer perfectly snug which helps to amplify the sound. The bell diameter is the same at ~7.25" but it also has an inner diameter of about 4". The whole thing resonates! It's very lightweight at 6 or 7 ounces total. The print is made with PLA filament derived from corn starch and sugar cane. PLA filament is generally regarded as chemically stable and safe (zero VOCs at normal temperatures). 3D prints do have their flaws and the "z-seams" are very noticeable (see picture), but even the original bell had seams and flaws. If you were to compare this rather large FDM 3D-print to other 3D prints, you would find it is of exceptional quality with only minor flaws here or there. Please allow for some variations in the print and color.
I ship fast. If you are unsatisfied with the horn, I accept returns. If it breaks under normal use or from a defect in quality, I will replace it up to a year.
