A set of cigarette cards from the extensive collection of my Grandfather. He was an avid collector of cigarette and trade cards between about 1914 and 1950. After his death in 1962 they have been stored and it is only now that we are tackling the daunting task of sorting and collating these cards and offering them for sale to collectors to augment their collections.
They have been stored for many years in a dry and clean environment and are being sold in various lots rather than as individual cards.
The photographs are of the cards that you would actually be buying rather than generic images, and you should be able to see and gauge their condition and read their individual numbers and descriptions from the photos. The photos have been taken in strong light to show the cards, warts and all! If any are discoloured or have fingermarks or slight burns, then these blemishes should show up in the photos
There are a few duplicates in some of the sets, so be careful - they’re not all guaranteed to be different, but most are!
The general condition of the overall collection is very good indeed, especially as in the case of some of the very early ones, they may have accompanied him in the trenches of the First World War!. Any that were very dirty or torn or ones with significant burn marks have been removed. The remaining ones (over eight thousand!) are surprisingly good, given their age.
Unfortunately we can’t break the sets up and sell individual cards.
