The 1930's General Electric F-63 'Art Deco' Tabletop 'Shortwave' AM/SW Tube Radio is a collectible piece that embodies the nostalgia and style of the era. Made by General Electric in the United States, this radio features a sleek Art Deco design and the ability to tune in to both AM and SW frequencies. With its compact tabletop size, this radio is a perfect addition to any vintage radio collection or as a unique decorative piece in a retro-inspired space.
I bench tested this. Plugged it in, it powered in and made static noises through the speaker. The volume button does turn it up but it's very touchy. I never heard a voice as I move the tuner around.
As you can see the cabinet itself needs to be refinished. And on the front some of the veneer has come off and will need to be replaced. All in all I would put this in fair condition, but needing to be refurbished. I found ones that were refurbished that sold for $650 back in 2022.
Below is some information that I found in this model:
Starting in 1890, there were rival companies competing with Thomas Edison trying to find the commercial and social applications of electricity. In 1892, with financing from J.P. Morgan, Edison and another company formed the General Electric Company of Schenectady NY. In 1919, GE founded RCA and AT&T, furthering the development of radio all over the world. The F-63 is a six-tube, two-band (SB,SW) radio. This table radio was the top seller for GE in 1937. The unique dial has separate band, volume and tone pointers, and a gorgeous Art Deco cabinet. walnut cabinet, black body lines and finished with a beautiful "piano" lacquer finish. They are very hard to find! This unique Art Deco design, great radio is ready for your collection!
