The Jolly Inn Motel was a mid-century roadside motel located at the I-75 & GA 94 exit in Valdosta, Georgia. With a slogan promising “A Modern Motel With Economical Rates,” it catered to families and road travelers during the automobile tourism boom of the 1950s–60s. The motel offered 160 units with cable TV, phones, individually controlled electric heat & air, shag carpet, and amenities like a swimming pool, gift shop, steak house, and family restaurant. It exemplified the golden era of motor inns along the developing Interstate Highway System.

The front of the postcard showcases a three-view layout popular in chrome postcards of the era. The top-left shows the Jolly Inn’s bold sign advertising rates from $8 and up, targeting budget-conscious travelers. The top-right image highlights a clean, modern double room with golden bedspreads, era-typical armchairs, and wall-mounted lamps. The lower panel shows the motel’s exterior with sliding-glass-door rooms arranged around a spacious lawn and sparkling outdoor swimming pool with poolside chairs — all hallmarks of mid-century American motel architecture.

Valdosta, located in Lowndes County near the Florida border, was a frequent overnight stop for tourists en route to Florida. In 1960, Valdosta had a population of approximately 25,000. Valdosta is home to Valdosta State University and Moody Air Force Base, both of which contributed to the town’s mid-century growth.
