For sale is a Victorian Brown Aesthetic Transferware Child's Lidded Sugar Bowl/Biscuit Jar featuring Little May with an Apron Full of Eggs. This piece was from the C. A. & Sons (Charles Allerton & Sons) of Staffordshire England, circa 1890.

This piece was originally part of a complete children's tea set or doll's set. The 6 sided covered box stands about 4 1/2" tall to the top of the finial . The decoration is transfer printed in a rustic brown color.

The pot depicts a little girl named May or Mae standing in front of farmhouse wearing a dress, a floppy hat, and an apron. She is holding up the front of her apron which appears to be filled with eggs. An endearing scene of country life, the central image is framed by an aesthetic background of flowers and a floral leaf border and repeats on each side of the pot.

The piece was made by Charles Allerton & Sons, a pottery manufacturer in the Staffordshire region of England who was well known for his whimsical children's tea sets. The pattern name is "MAY 753”, which is stamped on the bottom of the jar along with the manufacturer’s name (see photos).

The piece is in great condition, with no chips cracks, or repairs. There is a spoon ding inside the rim and typical minor manufacturing imperfections (see photos), original to the making and adding to the charm.
