This phone was in my childhood home probably since the 1960's when my parents bought their first home.  4 years ago we packed up the house and unplugged the phone and took it with us ... at the time it was still working and used.  It has just come out of a packed box and we cannot use this and have no way to test it, but when you tap on the phone, you can still hear the bell.
