Overview:

This is a lot of 13 original antique tintype (steel plate) photographs showcasing late 19th-century family portraits, including men, women, and children pictured in period attire. Several pieces feature original studio back marks from Louisville, Kentucky, and some include handwritten family identifications on the reverse. These authentic Victorian-era images offer excellent historical, genealogical, and decorative value for collectors of antique photography and Americana.

Physical Condition:

All tintypes and mounted photo cards show expected age wear including oxidation, scratches, fading, surface corrosion, edge wear, and minor warping. Some plates have corner losses or bends, and certain images show heavier emulsion wear or ghosting. Card backs exhibit discoloration, staining, and handwriting. These remain genuine antique pieces and have not been restored.

Additional Information:

Some photos include Louisville, KY studio stampings such as “J.C. Elrod’s Photograph Galleries” and photographic advertisements on the backs. A few images retain legible handwritten family names and notes. The lot includes a mix of direct steel plate tintypes and mounted card portraits, making it ideal for collectors, historians, genealogy researchers, or framing projects. All items are loose and sold exactly as pictured.
