This 1969 Austrian 50 Schilling silver coin commemorates the **450th Anniversary of Emperor Maximilian I’s Death (1519–1969)**, honoring the visionary ruler known as “The Last Knight.” Maximilian I (1459–1519) was instrumental in transforming Austria into a dominant European power and laid the foundation for the vast Habsburg Empire through political alliances, reform, and cultural patronage.
The obverse displays a right-facing portrait of **Emperor Maximilian I**, designed by **Hans Lauda**, wearing a Renaissance-style plumed hat and fur-trimmed robe. The reverse features the **coats of arms of Austria’s nine federal provinces** surrounding the denomination “50 Schilling,” representing unity and heritage.
