Description:

This is an authentic, handwoven ikat textile from the island of Sumba, Indonesia. Known as a hinggi, this type of textile is traditionally worn by men as a ceremonial cloth. The intricate patterns are created using the warp ikat resist-dyeing technique on hand-spun cotton. 
The textile features a dark ground with polychrome designs in red, blue, and off-white, including stylized figures and geometric motifs. The ends are finished with a fringe, characteristic of this style. This piece measures 274 cm in length and 43 cm in width. It can be used as a decorative runner, wall hanging, or as a collectible textile art piece.
