The Douglas SBD Dauntless was a highly effective US Navy and Marine Corps dive bomber and scout plane during World War II, known for its ruggedness and significant contributions at battles like Midway.

Though the SBD-1 model was purchased by the USMC, the aircraft was primarily a US Navy aircraft. Marine Corps squadrons like VMB-2 and VMB-1 were the first to receive them in late 1940 and early 1941, respectively. The Marine Corps used the Dauntless from both land bases and carriers.
