Regency Rosewood Tea Caddy English, circa 1820 A fine early 19th-century Regency tea caddy of elegant sarcophagus form, veneered throughout in richly figured rosewood of beautifully warm and mellow tone. The caddy retains its original lock and hinges, the front panel having softly aged to a lighter hue with time and polish. The mother-of-pearl escutcheon provides a delicate focal point to the façade, while the caddy stands on its original turned ball feet, likely once gilded. The interior is rosewood and fitted with a pair of lidded compartments, each with small turned bone knobs. Dimensions: Height 16 cm Width 22 cm Depth 13.5 cm Condition: Excellent period condition with a lovely, even patina; minor age-related marks consistent with use. The lock is original but the key is no longer present. Notes: A particularly attractive example of the Regency period, notable for its restrained classical profile and the fine quality of its rosewood veneers. Such pieces were luxury items in their day, used to store costly imported teas securely within elegant drawing rooms. Sent Worldwide secure and tracked service.
