Souvenir sheet of RUSSIA 2023 - Voronezh State Natural Biosphere Reserve./3087

The Voronezh State Natural Biosphere Reserve was created in 1923 for the preservation of an endangered animal species — the river beaver. It is located in the Voronezh and Lipetsk regions, 40 km north of the center of Voronezh and on the immediate border with its remote part — the village of Krasnolesnym.

The reserve preserves the unique nature of Usmanskogo bora with its rich flora and fauna, and its geographical location and variety of biotope conditions make it a rich animal world. 345 species of vertebrate animals have been registered on the territory of the park, including 239 species of birds, 62 species of mammals, 27 species of fish, 9 species of amphibians, 7 species of reptiles, 1 species of lamprey. The most common of them are river beaver, European red deer, forest marten, finch, zaryanka, common nightingale, gray crane, jackdaw, pike, krasnopyorka, various types of pigeons, beetles and krasotelov.

In 1985, the Voronezh Reserve was granted the status of a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, which confirms the international importance of the protected area in achieving the goals of sustainable development.

The postage stamp depicts the reserve's symbol - the river beaver, and the fields - the surroundings of the Voronezh State Nature Biosphere Reserve named after V.M. Peskov, as well as the European red deer, mallard, and white-tailed eagle that live there.
