Hand signed 4x6 inch photo by World War II vet, Charles McGee. Brigadier General Charles E. McGee was a pioneering American fighter pilot and one of the last surviving members of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American military aviators in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.
He served with the 332nd Fighter Group, known for their distinctive red-tailed aircraft and nicknamed "Red Tails" or "Red Tail Angels" by bomber crews they escorted.
McGee flew 136 combat missions in World War II across Europe, piloting P-39 Airacobras, P-47 Thunderbolts, and P-51 Mustangs, and shot down a German Fw 190 while escorting bombers over Czechoslovakia in 1944.
His service helped lay the foundation for the desegregation of the U.S. military in 1948.
McGee continued his distinguished career through the Korean and Vietnam Wars, completing a total of 409 combat missions—the highest three-war combat total of any U.S. Air Force fighter pilot.
He retired as a colonel in 1973 after 30 years of service and was promoted to brigadier general in 2020 in a ceremony at the White House.
Among his many honors are the Congressional Gold Medal (awarded collectively to the Tuskegee Airmen in 2007), three Distinguished Flying Crosses, a Bronze Star, and 26 Air Medals.
He was also inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 2011Shipping is done within 24 hours of received payment. We ship our items in 6X9 envelopes, sent first class with tracking and well packed. We do our best to accommodate special shipping requests as needed.
