The Breezes, Joseph O'Neill, Published by Faber and Faber, 1995; ISBN 10: 0571172571 / ISBN 13: 9780571172573; 1st Thus paperback.

An examination of a family subjected to misfortune of absurd but tragic proportions, and of the mechanisms for coping with that misfortune - blind optimism, cynicism, the pretence that things aren't happening and, ultimately, the desire to laugh. By the author of This is the Life (1991) and more recently Godwin (June 2024), The Dog (2014), and Netherland (2008).  He is also the author of a family history, Blood-Dark Track (2001), and the short-story collection Good Trouble (2018).
