The procedure shown here is for the RKE function only and is for vehicles that use a physical key in the ignition, such as E-series
This process is a manual sync for a new "virgin" or unlocked remote and will pair the keyless entry functions with your car
. It's crucial that all doors and windows are closed and that the car's battery is above 12 volts. You will need a working key for the initial steps if you have one. 
Part 1: Program a new key when you have a working key
  1. Gather all keys. Sit in the driver's seat with both your working key and the new, virgin key.
  2. Insert the working key into the ignition and turn it to position 1, without starting the engine. This will turn on your car's accessories.
  3. Remove the key and turn the ignition back off.
  4. Hold the unlock button on the working key. While holding it, press the lock button (the BMW logo) three times.
  5. Release the unlock button. Your car doors will automatically lock and unlock to confirm the successful pairing of the first key.
  6. Hold the unlock button on the new, virgin key. While holding it, press the lock button (the BMW logo) three times.
  7. Release the unlock button. The doors will again lock and unlock to confirm that the new key is paired.
  8. Start the car to finalize the programming process. 
Part 2: Program a new key from scratch (no working key)
If you do not have a working key fob, follow these steps instead. 
  1. Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position 1, and back to the off position, quickly five times in a row.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Hold the unlock button and press the lock button three times.
  4. Release the unlock button. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming.
  5. Start the car to complete the process.
