Origin. The Bamun people of Cameroon.
Use. These beautiful Clay Tobacco pipes were created by talented artisan for Bamun Chiefs and dignitaries to use at ceremonial functions.
Description. A fine, authentic and rare tribal example created by artisans of the Bamun ethnic group of Cameroon.
The bowl or stove, where the Tobacco is stored, is made of clay while the shank and mouthpiece are made with Bovine bone. The shank shows an etched human face.
Superb creation overall with fine, aged patination, and good balance, symmetry and form throughout.
This example is well-used, with obvious evidence of use, while providence information we have reveals this item is decades old.
Some chips and general clay lose along with small cracks , especially around the area joining the mouthpiece and the tobacco bowl, but Pipe is solid overall and in ex ellent collector condition.
Overall an authentic, fine, used and uniquely rare African treasure presented at a very reasonable price. Thank you for looking.
