Sewing Box
We offer a late nineteenth century Victorian Tunbridge jewelry or sewing box with a domed lid.
The walnut burl wood box is decorated with wide bands of marquetry. The interior has a removable tray with loose partitions lined in blue paper. A removable wooden panel in the lid is covered with claret colored satin held in place by a pewter latch. Behind the satin panel is old paper and a birthday gift note from a daughter to her mother from 1976. Green cloth covers the exterior bottom of the box.
The Tunbridge ware box measures 11 3/4" in width and 8 5/8" in depth with a height of 5 1/2".
As seen in the photographs, there is a loss of a small piece of inlay to the diamond border on the top center of the lid. The wood has a deeply aged wood patina with minor age cracks. The box no longer retains the key to the lock.
The Tunbridge ware domed lid box is presented in very good antique condition.
