Lotus pearls from 1960 were simulated (or faux) pearls, manufactured by the Birmingham-based Lotus Pearl factory, not natural pearls. These popular necklaces were a well-known brand of jewelry and were sold in their original presentation boxes, often featuring elegant clasps, making them collectible vintage items today.
