A rare genuine vintage double playing card pack decorated with the famous cartoon character, Reddy Kilowatt in red and blue. Made as a promotional corporate gift of Boston Edison Company and likely to date from the 1950s. Unused condition.

These standard-size cards come presented in their original box with the cards still sealed in their original cellophane wrappers. The box also still comes with remnants of its outer cellophane wrapping, the original Boston Edison Company complementary label still attached.

Box dimensions: 130mm x 98mm x 24mm (5.1 x 3.85 x 0.94 inches).

Very good unused condition (very slight age-related soiling to box – outer disposable cellophane wrapper in worn condition).

Making his first published appearance in 1926, Reddy Kilowatt is a cartoon character that served as a corporate spokesman for electricity generation in the United States and other countries for nearly one hundred years.  He is drawn as a stick figure whose body, limbs, and hair are made of stylised lightning bolts and whose bulbous head has a light bulb for a nose and wall outlets for ears.

The Boston Edison Company (BECo) was incorporated as the Edison Electric Illuminating Company of Boston in 1886. It was one of the earliest electric utility companies in the United States of America. The company was formally renamed the Boston Edison Company in June 1937, although it had also been previously known by this name informally.
