Medallion coin silver coffee and tea set. Made by Gorham in Providence, ca 1860. This set comprises 5 pieces: coffeepot, teapot, creamer, sugar, and waste bowl. Globular bowls on stepped feet. Necks cylindrical and covers hinged with vasiform finial. Stippled rondels with Classical profiles ranging from youths and maidens to bearded sages and virtuous matrons applied to raised dart bands and rims. Same applied to handles which are high-looping and tubular with volute-scroll caps; bottom mounts split-scroll, except for coffeepot handle, which has a scrolled bottom mount threaded with tendril-entwined branch. Engraved armorial with Latin motto ("Vigilate") and monogram (AMO).
