Pair of hand carved antique marble foo dogs that we purchased while traveling in Thailand.  Foo dogs/Fu dogs are not actually dogs but lions who are also called Shishi. Historically they guarded temple gates or the entrance to a home to keep evil forces from entering. They are also believed to bring good luck.  We traveled around Southeast Asia looking for special antiques and these truly were a rare find. We didn't see any other antique marble foo dogs or lions for sale (only new ones).  These are obviously hand carved and very old. The carving is hand done, not with a machine. The marble has a nice patina and has turned to an ivory shade. These majestic pieces are quite large measuring nearly 2 feet tall X about 10" wide (at base) X 15" deep. They are VERY HEAVY.  They would be a lovely and special addition to your home or garden.  This is for one pair of foo dogs (as shown in the photos).
