This is the Pflueger Sal-Trout No. 1556 Single Action Fly Reel
Every Sal Trout I found in the Pflueger catalogs from 1957 and earlier are all double handle reels. The first single handle Sal Trout 1556 I saw was in the 1958 Pflueger Catalog no. 194. I would guess 1958 is the first year for single action Sal-Trout reels.
