Plane Prototype History:
The For Curtiss JN-4 Was The Most Successful Trainer Aircraft In The United States During World War I. It Is An Improved Version Of Jn-3, Which Is Developed By Combining The Best Structural Features Of The Earlier J-Type And N-Type. Curtis Was The Second To Incorporate Traction Engines Into Aircraft Design. Prior To This, B. Douglas Thomas Of For Froude Company Had Already Incorporated Traction Engines Into The Design Of The J-Type Aircraft In 1913. The N-Type Aircraft Is A Similar Type Of Aircraft, Except That The Ailerons Have Returned Between The Wings - This Is The True Early Curtiss Style. In 1914, The Us Army Purchased Several J/N Type Aircraft, Which Were Later Combined Into The JN Series In 1915. Shortly Thereafter, The Series Was Nicknamed "Jenny" And This Name Was Used Until The Retirement Of The JN Aircraft. During The Period From The Announcement Of The United States' Entry Into The War In April 1917 To The Cessation Of Production After Armistice Day, The Order Quantity Of The "Jenny" Exceeded 6000 Aircraft. Due To Its Widespread Use As A Trainer Aircraft By The Us Army And The Royal Canadian Air Force, The "Jenny" Became The Most Influential Model In Post-War North American Aircraft Manufacturing, With Hundreds Of Surplus "Jenny" Planes Being Sold At Low Prices To Private Buyers. The "Jenny" Has Greatly Promoted The American Civil Aircraft Manufacturing Industry, And During The 1920s, It Was The Most Popular Aircraft Model In The Era Of Airplane Tours. Over The Past Decade, 'Jenny' Has Been Widely Used. In The 1920s, A Portion Of JN-4/6 Remained In Service With The United States Army And Navy, With The Last Batch Retiring From The National Guard In September 1927.
