Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and three colour plates. Collated, complete. 

A historical novel with fantasy elements, set during the reign of Edward III. The novel depicts the Battle of Crecy and the Black Death, with a supernatural death-like figure known as Murgh. Written by Sir Henry Rider Haggard, an English writer of adventure fiction romances set in exotic locations, and a pioneer of the lost world literary genre.

CONDITION

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with light fading to the spine and minimal edge wear. Bookplate of 'Ashton' to the front pastedown, with offsetting and spotting to the endpapers. Internally firmly bound with generally bright and clean pages with the odd spot, slightly heavier to the front.
