Here is Avery interesting 110 year old antique collection of ephemera devoted to a baby by the name of John Lewis Hibbs, Jr. from Edgely in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
This collection of ephemera consists of the following items:
.). Hardback back entitled - “The New Baby’s Biography” by A.O. Kaplan and illustrated with drawings by Ruth Mary Hallock. Book has 104 pages and measures 8 1/4 inches by 11 1/2 inches. This book has three beautiful full page full color Victorian style illustrations as well as, numerous dichromatic illustrations. This book was meant to be something of a scrapbook illustrating the early life of the baby. The information on many of the pages has been filled in with cursive ink writing but many of the pages were not filled in. Book is in fair to acceptable condition. The front cover hinge between the front cover and first endpaper is cracked but still together - one or two other hinges are also cracked in the book but the pages are still together and relatively tight. There are three places in the book where it looks like pages were cut out but I think that is the way the book was made. Some minor stain dots on the cover.
.). Dried flower corsage perhaps from John Lewis Hibbs Jr’s parents wedding. Poor condition
.). Marriage certificate for John Lewis Hibbs Jr’s parents - John L. Hibbs and Josephine Hunken dated January 14, 1916. Marriage took place in New York, New New York. Measures 5 3/8 inches by 7 inches. Marriage certificate has what appear to be ink stains.
.). Envelope with a lock of John Lewis Hibbs blond hair dated February 18, 1916 and anther envelope that has the following written on it - “Junior’s (John Lewis Hibbs Jr.) hair - September 24, 1915 - 11 months”. There is no hair in this envelope.
.). Old small birthday card and envelope from “Auntie Ev. ???
.). A notecard and envelope dated January 2, 1925 which is a thank you note thanking John Lewis Hibbs for beads. This thank you note was from John Lewis Hibbs Jr.’s teacher— Teacher Mariou. This was probably a thank you for a Christmas gift of beads for the teacher. The teacher states that she hopes John had a good vacation and that she will be glad to see him tomorrow morning — probably the start of school in the new year after Christmas vacation.
.). A letter and envelope from a girl classmate of John Lewis Hibbs, Jr. which is dated May 15, 1924 and is from the Friends’ Select School - 17th Parkway. In this from a girl named Alberta she tells John she is sorry he is sick and that they got a new girl in class. She also tells him they had Mayday on May 13th and that it is getting summer. Alberta also says she got a number one in arithmetic today. She ends the letter by telling him that they have a very nice map on agriculture.
.). A half sheet of typed philosophical advice and guidance.
