	ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is an Absolutely Beautiful & Ultra-Rare OOP (Long Out-of-Print) Vintage Circa Mid Century Circa 1947-50s Collectible ‘Large Format’ Collotype Lithograph Depicting the Famous Head & Shoulders Portrait of a Soldier in a Gold Helmet, Partial Armor & Heavy Tunic (Mars, The Roman God of War), titled in German, “Der Mann Mit Dem Goldhelm” (Translates: “The Man with the Golden Helmet”), after the famous c1650-55 oil painting ‘formerly attributed to’ the world-famous listed painter & etcher, ‘Rembrandt van Rijn’ (Dutch, 1606-1669) who is generally considered one of the greatest painters and printmakers in European art and the most important in Dutch history, though until more recent times (from previously examinations 1969, 1976, 1979, 1982) and finally on March 13, 1986, the painting was considered by experts at the Gemäldegalerie Berlin to be the work of someone in his circle or from the Rembrandt Academy, and not by the hand of the master himself. The Chicago Tribune published the article titled, “Famed Work Declared Not To Be A Rembrandt”, on March 14, 1986, by United Press International which stated about the painting: It is a big tourist draw in West Berlin`s State Museum, whose officials cooperated with the independent panel of Rembrandt experts from the Prussian Cultural Foundation for Dutch Art. “We have the duty to search out the truth as far as possible”, said foundation spokesman Jan Kelch, who made the announcement at a press conference in Berlin. Stylistic analaysis [sic] last year suggested there was evidence for longstanding doubt about the artist. Kelch said new scientific evidence left no question. The panel said the masterpiece was not a phony or a copy but was “an independent original in its own right and with its own independent worth.” Kelch said specialists at the Berlin Hahn-Meitner Institute for Atomic Research subjected the painting to more than 70 hours of radioactive bombardment to activate the pigment neutrons and compare their behavior with those of genuine Rembrandts. Then the picture was cleaned to rid it of previous restoration work and again examined stylistically. Finally it was retouched to return it as close as possible to pristine condition, he said. Although genuine Rembrandts sell for as much as $6.5 million and pictures from his school bring $1 million, Kelch said “The Man with the Golden Helmet is not for sale.” Continued… In addition, the man depicted is said to be identified as the Roman God of War “Mars” (Tümpel and Schöne: Tümpel 1971, p. 20, note 2; Schöne 1973, p. 33-99 [rembrandtdatabase(dot)org]). The original painting is in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin, Germany (oil on canvas, 26-1/2” x 20”). Publisher & Litho Info: The artist’s name and title, ‘Rembrandt 1606-1669 Der Mann Mit Dem Goldhelm’, appears printed very tiny lower-left in the outer margin area just beneath the image; The location, ‘Staatl. Sammlungen Berlin’ (Translates: “Staatl. Collection Berlin”), appears printed lower-middle; And the publisher’s name, location & printing info, ‘Franz Hanfstaengl Muchen Printed in Germany’, appears printed lower-right respectively and whose embossed circular logo with name, ‘Hanfstaengl Druck’ around the outside of the circle (Translates: Hanfstaengl Printing; Features 3 dolphins or sharks in center swimming in circle), appears lower-left in the bottom outer margin area just beneath the artist’s name & title. The inventory number, ‘B784’, appears printed very tiny upper-right in the outer margin area just above the image. The Collotype is on a nice heavier ivory-colored wove paper stock. Size & Condition: The size with wide margins is 31-1/2” x 24-3/8”, Image size is 26” x 19-1/2”. The Collotype is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its vintage age with absolutely no color fade and has been in a drawer in our archive amongst other prints & lithos since it was purchased by the Meibohm family and hasn’t seen the light-of-day in all this time—it’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as ‘Mint’ as any collector could hope to find in its original never-framed condition. Simply Beautiful! No tears! No real or significant damage at all on this beautiful litho aside from the negligible exceptions of: There is what appears to be extremely minimal & ultra tiny scattered various brown-colored printing ink-offset specks (they don’t look like foxing & was present on other copies we had & sold previously) which are scattered here & there in the lower-left & bottom-left outer margin areas, which was most-likely done at the time of printing, and aren’t too noticeable & aren’t even worth mentioning as they are negligible and easily matted & framed out; Ultra-minimal (maybe one or two) very slight & very tiny crescent-creases here & there in the image area which aren’t even noticeable (except very lightly from behind) and aren’t worth mentioning either; Other ultra-minimal & slight creases scattered here & there in the outer margin areas, along a coupl outer margin edges and tiny dog-ear bends in a couple outer margin corners—all outer margin issues are completely negligible since they can easily be trimmed off or matted & framed out; And Negligible/no real or noticeable toning of the paper stock from age, especially amidst the ivory color of the paper stock itself. This rare collotype has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade.
