On 26 October, the ship arrived at Qui Nhon where one of the infantry battalions was off loaded. From there the ship traveled to Vung Tau where six pilots from the 50th and other troops debarked. Then finally, the remainder of the 50th’s personnel were debarked and flown to Tuy Hoa AFB by C-123 along with its equipment which had been delivered to Cam Ranh Bay. The unit’s aircraft had arrived by jeep carrier at Vung Tau and the experienced pilots flew the unit’s aircraft to Tuy Hoa on the same day. The unit set up operations next to the 91st Evacuation Hospital outside the village of Phu Hiep, about two miles south of Tuy Hoa on the beach. It flew its first mission the next day. By the end of December it had evacuated 644 patients, including 100 Koreans. A permanent one-ship standby was maintained at Ban Me Thuot. It also supported the 101st Airborne Division and the 3rd Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division.
