1989 Wayne Gretzky Tribute & Statue FULL Ticket Stub - August 27, 1989
A crowd of 14,000 poured into the Northlands Coliseum on Aug. 27, 1989. Mayor Terry Cavanagh proclaimed it Wayne Gretzky Day in Edmonton, and during a Sunday-afternoon tribute, the Oilers star was presented with a key to the city and a 15-foot, 1000-pound bronze statue of him hoisting the Stanley Cup over his head was unveiled. The statue of The Great One resided outside of the Edmonton Coliseum until 2017 and was then moved to its new location in front of Rogers Place in downtown Edmonton.
I have seen many of the four-page programs and the color inserts that were produced for this event, but tickets from the tribute are hard-to-find.
